Hole Description
GALLACHERS - Named after the Blyth District Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator Dr Thomas Ardgowan Gallacher L.R.C.P. and S. Edin., L.F.P.S. Glas., whose home backed onto the field known ever since the early 1900's as "Gallacher's Field" now a sports ground - and Out of Bounds!
Pro's Tip
A tough opener where your tee shot is key. The ideal tee shot is left side of the fairway avoiding the fairway bunker and out of bounds right in Gallacher’s field. A 4 is always a good start here.

PITCH & TOSS - Where miners would gather in one of the nooks and crannies of the pit heap – away from view - to wager their pay on the toss of a coin. Many would lose all – and so might you!
Pro's Tip
A short uphill Par 4 where your second shot is key. The Seconds protection is its green so make sure you pick the correct club to avoid a long putt on this difficult green.

RAILWAY - The old London and North-Eastern Railway, which linked the pits and the people of Blyth, Ashington and Newbiggin in the days when steam ruled, runs the full length of the hole out of bounds to the right.
Pro's Tip
The Stroke 1 Hole. The fairway slopes left to right so keep your tee shot to the left. A long second shot to a narrow green that can make or break your score. Missing the green to the right could spell disaster.

YELLA BABBY - The open ditch which is now piped and covered in, carried yellow-coloured waste water from the pit and a favourite playground for the local children who often returned home to a good hiding with their clothes stained a bright yellow – hence the nickname.
Pro's Tip
A beautifully framed hole where depth perception can trick you, trust your yardage. Play short of the fairway bunkers to leave a short iron into a green the slopes back to front.

BEBSIDE BOUND - Heading out to the Northern-most point of the course towards the locally called "40 acre field" – and you’d be halfway to Bebside.
Pro's Tip
The 5th is often into the wind so correct club selection is crucial to find the green that slopes left to right. Miss the green anywhere and its a challenging up and down for Par.

STABLES - Pit ponies were extensively used at the colliery and stables were built where the copse now lies on the left side of the fairway.
Pro's Tip
A tricky par 4 with a tight tee shot and a blind second to a narrow green. Play short of the fairway bunkers or risk trying to thread the needle. Aim for the marker to leave yourself in the middle of the green. Trust your yardage for your second shot.

Pro's Tip
Uphill, slight dogleg left, tee shot is key. Avoid fairway bunkers to the left to leave second shot from about 170 yards. Make sure you take 1 extra club as many golfers finish short.

A great par 3 to kick off the back 9 with a pond short left and bunker right. Check wind direction and get your club selection right.

HIGH CHAPEL - One of the many strong Methodist and Wesleyan Chapels that served the village, which in 1875 boasted 500 houses built in long colliery rows. The "High" Chapel stood on the site of the present green.
Pro's Tip
A good mid iron to an unsighted green. Always plays longer than it looks with mounds short and tall trees behind the green. Trust the yardage. Middle of the green is a good result here.

Pro's Tip
Left is the way forward on this 90 degree dogleg left Par 5. Keep your tee shot left to avoid running out into the trees and keep your second shot left to avoid the pond leaving a short shot in for your 3rd.

SINKERS - Famous old row in the village, which housed the colliery sinkers – men who sunk the original pit shafts. A poor tee shot appropriately reflects the name.
Pro's Tip
Our signature hole is a strong Par 3 over water. A mid to long here safely to the middle of the green. Club up if you’re not sure as it always plays half a club to a club longer.

OVENS - A hooked drive from the tee would land on the site of the old brick ovens, which were fired by "duff" and used by the womenfolk as a communal bakery.
Pro's Tip
The 15th fairway is generous which then leaves a challenging approach. A tricky green waits divided by a severe left to right slope running the full length of the green. Find the correct side of the green to leave yourself the best chance.

THE SNOOK - One of the earliest recorded names of the town and port – Blyth Nook or Snook, first referred to in 1153. An apt name for a tricky hole.
Pro's Tip
Blyth’s Postage Stamp! A short par 3 with a heavily guarded two tier green. Find the right level and you could be rewarded or 3 putts are easily possible. Miss the green and it has wrecked many a good score.

MICKS CABIN - Quite a local character was Mick O’Malley who sat in his weightman’s cabin keeping a tally on the tubs of coal as they passed by on the 'ginny way' – and keeping children out of harm’s way.
Pro's Tip
Straightaway par 4, bunkers right and trees left. Accuracy off the tee is essential. A well placed tee shot leaves a mid iron to the green.
